Hostel Operation in the Embassy of the Republic of Korea

Hostel Operation in the Embassy of the Republic of Korea

On June 14, RFA Korean broke the news regarding North Korea’s violation of UN sanctions by running a hostel business inside the North Korean embassy in Germany. It was quoted in detail by the Russian news agency TASS, as well as many South Korean media outlets, including KBS-TV and the Yonhap News outlet and Chosun Ilbo. RFA Korean reported that the North Korean Embassy in Berlin — via The Cityhostel Berlin, which rents part of the embassy property – was still taking reservations by phone and the Internet, despite a German government ban on the building’s commercial lease. As a result of the RFA Korean report, the German Embassy in Washington D.C. indicated that German authorities will urgently work on closing down the hostel and will fully implement UN and EU sanctions against North Korea.
